Mary Henry studied with Moholy-Nagy at the Institute of Design in Chicago.  I am an abstract or non-objective painter; this is the form that I use because it is my natural way of working. I try to eliminate non-essentials from the canvas and try to get down to the nitty-gritty, to explore and expand with each painting. I was born an artist – it is the only occupation that I've ever wanted; it keeps me totally involved. My art comes from my intellect and that gives me great freedom to create. I'm not interested in portraying life but I am interested in portraying ideas and emotions. I would like people to be moved when they confront my work and to think of each painting as a presence, complete in itself and having a life of its own. –Artist statement
