Originally from China, the Hmong migrated southward into the Laotian Mountains during the 19th century where they farmed and traded.  They preserved their stories and folk tales with their embroidered quilts.  The stories told on these quilts have been expanded by the written word embroidered next to the figures.  This is not traditional, but an adaptation to the Hmong's adopted land.
