Equal parts totem, monument, fetish object and self-referential statement of art about art, this work refuses to allow one to linger comfortably in its presence.  While only a dead tree stump presenting us with the possible tool of its own destruction, it elegantly retains a malevolent spirit seemingly intent on executing a particularly unpleasant revenge on whoever cuts it down.
