I began by photographing the facilities with the large-format camera. Using this type of camera is a slow process that requires a tripod and time spent with each scene. This allowed the workers to become familiar with me. As they talked with me they became interested in the project and invited me to photograph the work they were doing. I, in turn, educated myself and began to produce an “inventory” of the equipment necessary to City Light. –Artist statement
