It is well known that the Native peoples of the NW Coast region have great reverence for the Salmon. This design was inspired by a historic example of Salish art attributed to the Squamish Nation. During the time of this object's creation, the salmon adorned many examples of the objects of daily life, and today still, we as Native people continue in that tradition and so honor what is dear to us. –Artist statement
