Born to noted Northwest artists James Fitzgerald and Margaret Tomkins in 1946, Miro Fitzgerald is an accomplished painter and sculptor in her own right. She received her BFA in 1969 and MFA in 1974 from the University of Washington and has shown extensively through out the region and nation. Fellowships included Yale School of Art, Skowhegan School of Painting and Splutter, Brooklyn Museum Max Beckmann Fellowship, and MacDowell Colony.
Although abstracted in nature, this painting is part geometry and part light refracted through water. While it may not give one a feeling of vertigo, the surface does seem to almost undulate and give way to a deeper third dimension.
