Since the Renaissance, painting has been, for the most part, about illusionary space. That is, depicting something as if one were looking through a window at it. In the 20th century, the concept of illusion has been challenged and replaced to some degree by artists who make no attempt to fool the eye. These artists paint in such a way as to remind the viewer that he or she is looking at a flat surface with paint on it. In this work, the artist walks a line between the real space and an illusionary one.
