History: This statue was commissioned by the Seattle Chamber of Commerce in 1910. It completed by Richard Brooks in Paris in 1912 and was dedicated in 1913.
About the artist: Richard Edwin Brooks Born 1895 at Braintree Massachusetts. He lived most of his professional life as a sculptor in Paris. He was a member of the National Sculpture Society and National Institute of Arts and Letters.
About the subject: John Harte McGraw (1850-1910) was elected Washington State’s second Governor in 1892.
