Description: Community-inspired designs will illuminate the exterior western wall of the new South Park Branch Library. Three theatrical lighting fixtures are housed in artist- designed stainless steel enclosures mounted on two 12-foot columns. The imagery will change seasonally, creating opportunities for the artwork to remain relevant. The artist created eight displays or two years worth of gobos (thin plates of metal with the artist’s design cut out of the surface) for one exhibition cycle.
Artist Statement: The inspiration for this project came from South Park! South Park is one of Seattle’s most spirited and dynamic communities. South Park needed an inclusive artwork that would allow the community to represent itself and be consistent with the architect’s vision of the new library.
Location: South Park Branch Library, 8604 Eighth Avenue South at South Cloverdale Street, Seattle WA 98108
