Description: Each Flyways installation consists of a ring of birds, reminiscent of an origami carousel, positioned to appear as if they are in flight; the ring is mounted on a metal pole. All three communities collaborated with the artist to select the bird species in order to make each artwork unique to the neighborhoods. For example, Flyways by Aki Kurose Middle School in Rainier Beach features blue and gold peace cranes, in honor of the school’s mascot and colors.
