I learned about art by going to museums with my parents as a child. The artwork I remember most vividly was that which was adopted by the institutions as 'contemporary art,' including op and kinetic art, color field painting, pop art, photo-realism, European salon abstraction, and some minimalism.
I try to avoid pastiche when I confront the art of the 1960s in my own work. I cannot deny that my childhood experience of museums must have a profound influence on the decisions I make as an adult painter. –Artist statement
