This image is from the photographer's book: American Boricua: Puerto Rican Life in the United States. The word Boricua is used as a term of endearment Puerto Ricans use for one another. The girl in this photograph is having her 13th birthday and lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Through this work I hope to draw attention to the history and vitality Puerto Rican culture brings to daily life in the American landscape. –Artist statement
