Inner Space

Although this artwork is a drawing in charcoal rather than a painting, the image can well be referred to as hard-edge rendering.  It reflects the same manner of sharp, clearly defined geometric and symmetrical shapes that control the subject matter.  The artist is interested in a linear perspective that suggests optical illusion, encouraging the eye to travel through the spiral to the back of the work.  Its precision and impersonality distinguish it from the spontaneous-renderings of expressionistic abstraction.
