Description: Twelve river stones each inscribed with a different symbol, gathered with the help of different ethnic communities in the Rainier area, express the theme of our relationship with the “earth”.  Each inscription is oriented so that when visitors are looking at it they will be facing in the direction of the place from which the symbol originates.

A second element is incorporated in to the landscaping of the lawn area southeast of the new center.  A flat, three foot diameter boulder lies atop a gently sloped berm, three feet high and 12 feet in diameter and represents the “native center” or “locus” of the community center.  This gives relevance to the 12 other river stone sites which represent transmigration points that meet on this land.

Location: Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Avenue South, Seattle WA  98118
