I paint from life, and I think of my work in terms of a relationship. Painting from nature is, for me, like having a conversation with a deeply intelligent, breathtakingly beautiful friend. I mostly do the listening, and I simply try to make sure that each brushstroke is an honest response. In the hours I've stood outdoors working on paintings, my roots have gone down deep into my river valley. It's the world of nature that gives me my truest sense of home, and that's something I feel many people are missing in their lives. I want my work to awaken people's connection with the natural world, and bring them the gifts of wholeness and exhilaration that I feel while I'm painting. –Artist statement
