'Moon bear is part of a series of bear heads I created that represent the unprepared business community and citizens of Eastern Europe immediately after the fall of the communist party. The original form was sculpted in clay and a plaster mold taken. We prepared a hot glass bubble with color and gathered enough glass to fill the mold with a thick even-walled bubble. The glass was blown into the plaster mold, the mold was then opened, the object knocked off the blowpipe and cooled overnight in an annealing oven. Once cool, the excess glass was removed with a diamond saw. The bear was painted, gilded and then fired in a kiln. –Artist statement
