The Philosophical Promenade

This work is located between the western pedestrian entrance for the Mount Baker Tunnel and 23rd Street on the I 90 lid. The artwork is composed of two identical sets of 12 stations, one set running east to west, the other west to east. The stations are approximately 50 feet apart. The artwork can be read in two ways, depending on the direction the walker/cyclist is heading. At each station, a rock on the edge of the pathway is surrounded by a concrete rectangle with inlaid bronze lettering that expresses a philosophical statement. Adjacent to each rectangle is a bronze plaque depicting a symbolic representation of different stages of a journey. Large inlaid bronze letters form words extending from the plaque across the pathway. A story unfolds as the viewer moves from station to station, down one side of the artwork and back. 

Location: Within I-90 Lid Park on the bike/pedestrian trail going east from Martin Luther King Jr. Way South to the tunnel. The trail is south of South Irving Street and north of South Massachusetts Street, Seattle WA  98144
