The embroidered sampler, traditionally better known as a method of displaying homilies on kitchen walls than as medium of expression in the fine arts, is used here to present a layered image of playing cards and maps. The juxtaposition is not explained by the artist, so the viewer is left to decipher it alone. It may have a political meaning, a mystical one, or no meaning other than an accidental and attractive layering of images which interested the maker.
