This river starts up in the Cascades and moves through prairies, urban parks and finally a fish hatchery. Rivers play different roles depending where you are on them. The numbers on the tapestry are the latitude and longitude of this particular spot on the river close to Yelm. I have been a tapestry weaver since my first child was born and I needed a medium that worked with the unpredictable ways of babies, broken time and non-toxic materials. My work has been focused on Northwest waters, most recently, documenting Washington rivers. Healthy rivers are critical to a healthy ecosystem. –Artist statement
