Cherish

This sculpture simulates a hope chest with shelves that become visible one at a time when a corresponding button is pushed.  The shelves contain traditional hope chest items intended to provoke thought about traditional gender roles.  Found objects play a leading role in the artist’s work.  On one level, the chest functions as an anchor of truth.  On another level, the act of acquiring an object is integral to the making of the work.
