The artist, born in Arequipa, Peru in 1949, has lived and photographed in Seattle for thirty years.  Here he has represented people by documenting their absence.  In his Sand Point Series, the artist was overwhelmed by the absence of people as he photographed rooms exactly as he found them.  Despite the inherent documentary qualities, he prefers to think of his photos as subconscious interpretations of reality rather than documentation of something real.

Eduardo Calderón has exhibited internationally and his photographs are in many collections in Europe and the Americas, including the Bibliothque National and Musee Carnavelet in Paris, Fotogaleria Secuencia in Lima, and the Seattle Art Museum.  He has received numerous awards for his work including an Artist Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1992.
