Description: This sculpture is a 5,500 pound geometrical abstract composition consisting of connected solid black steel volumes.

This was the first major public art acquisition under Seattle's 1% for Art program. Tony Smith was commissioned by the Contemporary Art Council of the Seattle Art Museum to construct a full size plywood mockup of Moses for an exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum Pavilion. In 1972, the Art in Public Places Committee recommended to the Seattle Arts Commission that a steel Moses be constructed and located at Seattle Center.
