This is a seascape taken to its most minimal.  Even though this depiction of the view out to sea is barely there, it is also familiar to anyone who has stood on a Northwest beach on a gray day and stared out towards the horizon.
Wesley Wehr was a musician, a paleontologist, and artist with a knack for archiving conversations.  He entered the artworld as a music teacher to Mark Tobey when Wehr was only 19 and still a student at the University of Washington.  This union led to a lasting friendship that widened to include all the major Northwest artists of that era.
