Mother and Father offers a glimpse of my mother's first reunion, since the end of the American war with Vietnam, with her long lost love and my biological father who was unbeknownst to me. Months leading up to my first trip to Vietnam with my mother, she called me and informed me that my dad, the G.I. who taught me how to play baseball, was not my father. This began the long process of unraveling my identity not as an Asian-American but rather a Vietnamese man. –Artist statement
