I am an artist and educator at New York University and the School of Visual Arts. I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I work in installation, sculpture, photography, and video. Thematically my ideas come from narratives about women: the life history of my maternal grandmother, historical diaries, as well as fictional narratives I have written. The images of this suite are poetic visual impressions of a romantic encounter. They are meant to suggest both the sensuous and bittersweet characteristics of the memory. The evocative and melancholy text completes the suite. –Artist statement
