Plastic Andy Panda

Over the years I have done volunteer work at Our House, a facility that provides shelter and services for homeless youth in Portland. This is a portrait of a young man who used the services there. I made the fibers from cutting open used plastic shopping bags and cutting them into long strips. I felt this was the right material for this particular portrait as this teen was road-weary and fragmented, but also remarkably resilient. –Artist statement
