History: In 1984, voters approved a bond issue that allowed for the renovation of 16 fire stations. Three artists   Tom Askman, Kenny Schneider and Ellen Ziegler   were chosen to work as a team on the project. The artists were asked to examine all of the fire stations and to select those they would like to work with. Five stations were selected.

Description: In an unused five story tower, Askman installed a series of larger than life firefighter silhouettes. Each figure is performing a task related to fire fighting and rescue. These figures, fabricated from specially treated aluminum, retain a highly polished and reflective surface. Each is designed to move along a track within its window.

Location: Fire Station 17, 1020 Northeast 50th Street, Seattle WA  98107
