Educated as a city planner, an architect, and an artist, Choi’s work explores the potentials of unexpected materials to express both multiple scales of spatial experience and intimate, personal associations. She uses everyday materials in an improvisational manner to search for limits and possibilities. BAR is one of Choi’s signature collages incorporating line tape - a drafting tool considered obsolete in the digital age. These tapes were originally intended to convey specific graphical information but, here they communicate abstract emotion rather than data. Each of these collages is an experiment, a spontaneous process of searching for an elusive moment. –Artist statement
