Carousel

In this painting I am experimenting with a bright and saturated color palette to communicate the resilience, and strength of women in my native Ukraine.  In that profoundly patriarchal society women carry a double burden of responsibility: they are expected to hold jobs and do all the work inside the home since child care, cooking and cleaning are still seen as “women’s work.” In this painting I want to celebrate these hard-working women in a moment of a lighthearted respite as they chat while seated on a playground carousel. –Artist statement
