El Conero

El Conero means ice cream man in Spanish. This image was taken in Marale, Honduras during their annual fair every late January. They too are small business owners in their own right. Living in the United States for years now, this scene drew parallels between the paleteros (popsicle vendors) here in South Seattle and Burien, a hub for Honduran culture and population. Every painting depicts someone I know on a personal level. The imagery is gathered from my travels to Honduras, to the callejones in Los Angeles, and my neighborhood in Seattle. –Artist statement
