The artwork is created utilizing the practice of encaustic fine art photography.  Encaustic is a Greek word meaning "to heat or burn in" and dates to ancient times.  Encaustic consists of natural bees’ wax and resin using heat to fuse multiple layers of wax. Dune Grass was created this year as an artistic offshoot to a cover piece I photographed and wrote for the Pacific Northwest magazine in Seattle where I live and how my community is fighting erosion.  Dune grass is flourishing on the beach, which is a clear sign that the beach is healing. –Artist statement
