Ripples #7 (Microrayon) continues my exploration the fragmented nature of personal and cultural remembering by compositing images from the former USSR. The term 'microrayon' refers to apartment blocks popularized throughout the 1960s. These prefabricated buildings proliferated the urban landscape in cities across the Soviet Union, characterizing a shared aesthetic and way of living for millions of city dwellers. The buildings surrounded city blocks and central courtyard functioned as communal garden, playground, meeting, and marketplace. –Artist statement
