Cyanessence consists of multiple interrelated stainless steel elements: small spheres spill out of the drain pipe, a ribbed drain grate topped with a larger sphere caps the overflow outlet, with six seating sculptures and four illuminated sculptures throughout the site. At night the character of the sculptures change as blue light emits from within the large sculptures’ forms. The artwork installation is inspired by the wonder and beauty of the growth and forms of plants and fungi. The forms are meant to become integrated within landscape and the robust, diverse plant and fungal species that are now growing there. The sculptural forms are intended to augment the experience of this water-filtering urban “nature patch,” to make the passage through the site an interesting and rewarding one.
