Molly's Moons

 As a science teacher doing remote instruction for newcomer language learners in 2020, I avoided sitting at my sewing machine after long hours plugged into a tiny desk and a laptop at home. I experimented with improvisational big stitches during online meetings and after work to unwind and rest. I am concerned about our collective mental health now more than ever. The resulting shapes formed from puzzling these oddly shaped scrap pieces together remind me of the work of textile artist Molly Upton. –Artist statement
