A Time Was Had is an image from a public community event here in Seattle that I was commissioned to document. This image is a study in the magic of healthy community and the joy, safety, beauty and pleasure that comes from acceptance and celebration of varied identities. Everyone in this photo is in harmony with the vibe. Each dancer a study in joy, pleasure and “The Moment”. I titled this “A Time Was Had” but another way to say this is “We Had a Tiiiime..” This image is reminiscent of the famous painting by Ernie Barnes titled “The Sugar Shack”. The painting was used in the opening of a television show called Good Times. So naming this piece “We Had a (Good) Time” is my nod to that image. –Artist statement
