History: Richard Lang purchased the cairn in honor of his father Julius after seeing it at the Belgium World's Fair in 1959.
The cairn was created by a European artist, Francois Stahly who was born in Germany in 1911. During his highly distinguished career, the German French sculptor received numerous commissions for public works both in Europe and America.
Stahly spent his childhood in Switzerland. His Italian father and grandfather were both painters and strongly encouraged François to follow in their vocation. Though he did not follow their interest in painting, he adopted an interest in the arts and attended art school in Zurich in 1926.
