History: Project commissioned, conceived, and cast from 1907-1912 by James Wehn. The bronze life-size statue forms the centerpiece at Tilikum Place. In 1975, a granite pool base and artwork boulders by Richard Beyer were created for the sculpture and the statue was rededicated when Tilikum Place was reopened.
Description: Based on the only known photo of Chief Seattle – the statue is posed looking out toward Puget Sound, his arm raised in greeting. On a granite base are two bronze bear heads that serve as waterspouts and two bronze plaques depicting historical events of the city.
