In 1983 Mr. Chew went to Katmandu, Nepal, and had one of his computer-generated drawings translated into a wool rug by the local crafts people. Soon, he developed a factory in Katmandu called Contemporary Carpet Center, and employed several local families for a number of years. Although he no longer produces these beautiful works of art, he still feels that In a world where walls are devoid of breathing room there is still plenty of space for an artist to stretch out on the floor. –Artist statement
