Jim is a chef who has specialized in vegetarian cuisine but loves exploring all the food cultures of the world. He was the opening chef for Café Flora and the former chef/owner of Plenty, a restaurant and specialty food store in Madrona. Jim is currently the chef/owner of Jimmy’s Table, a restaurant and bar, where he plans to showcase the talents of local jazz musicians on Sunday nights. The décor of his restaurants is as important as the food. The colors are rich, the furniture eclectic, and he features works by local artists and performers. He says he wants to create a place of calm within the community a place that makes people feel happy. . . “like grandmother’s house.”

Afro-centric art in all forms is of special interest to him. He collects black dolls, photography by African American artists, and is an aficionado of gospel, blues, jazz, and opera. The motifs on the background of his tapestry are from Haitian banners, the gold band is from a pattern found on a monetary weight from Ghana. During the interview for Five Citizens, he mentioned how beautiful the clouds had been that spring.

Words that Jim lives by: “God works in mysterious ways.”
