Description: The artwork consists of three painted aluminum plate sculptures. Each measures between 8 ½ and 9 feet tall, and they are arranged in a row along 40th Avenue Northeast. The sculptures are intended to playfully mimic the trees that sit on either side of the artwork in the building’s rain garden. The sculptures are water-jet cut from 3/4' aluminum plate, with additional 3/8” plate added along the “trunk” of the abstracted trees. Katz states that the artworks give some illusion of depth when viewed from the front, but when seen from the side, they appear as a vertical line.
Artist Statement: These sculptures are specifically designed with abstract tree-like associations to complement the vegetation. They also act as a counterpoint in their size and scale to the building and the adjacent columnar trees. Juxtaposed with architectural and organic elements in the surrounding environment, the form of the artwork creates an overlapping and interlocking visual framework.
