The letter form X functions as marker, flag, signature, and indicator. X stands in for a name, a lover, a place, a person, or a playbook-like strategy. It can tick a box or negate. I am interested in how blanket bindings record a history of use that are ledger-like. Blankets are objects of intimacy and they console. Historically, X was used by indigenous people for signing documents and treaties because our communities relied on an oral tradition for communicating. –Artist statement
