This artwork addresses successive cultures becoming layered upon one another.  With both a long term and a somewhat sideways current vision, one can see archaeology as a biproduct of Seattle Public Utilities.  Not only do new utility installations require an archaeological assessment and possible excavations, creating contemporary archaeology, but also Seattle utility infrastructure will eventually become the archaeology of tomorrow.  Sewage and water systems and landfills may inform someone in the future about our daily lives. Everything we leave might someday be someone else’s archaeology.

Three beadwork panels represent report pages for items that are or may have been found at sometime within the map shown on the large copper panel.

45KI2091 is an archaeologist floor plan of a Western Washington Native American longhouse.
