The American Heritage dictionary simply lists John Cage (1912-1996) as an American composer. Best known for his experimental music, he was also a respected visual artist. This print was produced with the California print publishers, Crown Point Press.  Cage's delicate but sure drawing style combined with the beauty of a finely executed drypoint line give these prints their special quality.  Like the Ryoanji itself they are quiet and meditative.
