In her quilt-making, Liston sometimes approaches them as little altars, referencing Mexican retablos, voodoo altars, and portraiture, as well as the work of Paul Klee, von Jawlesky and the Bay Area figure painters. She remains faithful to the traditional quilt form in her medium, often allowing the pure visual experience and color or patterning to take over. She applies intaglio and relief prints to her fabrics, using dyes and pigments, resists, screenprints, painting and mono-prints in the fabrication.
