Description: The artwork serves to unify the trail with a series of panels mounted on sign posts which are located along the entire length of the developed Longfellow Creek Trail. The identifiers help to direct people using the trail by providing recognizable landmarks to orient and reinforce the location of the trail. Five images of flora, photographed by the artist at Longfellow Creek, have been each manipulated in contrast and set against a saturated color field and are repeated on 16 panels. The panels are matched in different pairings, forming two-sided identifiers.
The Longfellow Creek Legacy Trail developed out of the on-going partnership between the community and the City of Seattle. It is a “ribbon of connection” among neighborhoods, businesses, public green spaces, and community resources. Prints of these artworks were also accessioned into the civic collection in the following year.
