Project Background: Created as part of a second phase of SPU's Meadowbrook Detention Pond project, the informational kiosk is a unique work of art that orients visitors to SPU's detention pond. The detention pond was developed to reduce stormwater flows and improve water quality in Thornton Creek and the broader watershed in which it is sited. The kiosk provides a location for educational materials to be viewed. A terrazzo map of northeast Seattle on the floor of the kiosk shows local creeks that traverse the Thornton Creek watershed.
The information kiosk, located near the 36th Ave. N.E. entry of the Reflective Refuge, contains a display case, a site map, and a cast terrazzo watershed map in its irregularly shaped concrete floor. A salmon colored, undulating aluminum ridge structure caps the kiosk.
Location: Meadowbrook Detention Pond, 35th Avenue Northeast between NE 105th Street & NE 110th Street, Seattle WA 98125
