George Tsutakawa (1910 - 1997) was one of our Northwest Masters, excelling in every art medium that he tried.  Although he is best known for his sculptural bronze fountains located in public spaces, his paintings are also notable. In about 1960 I became aware once again of the Eastern philosophy and art of my youth, and Japanese Art in particular. Through travel and study of traditional Japanese art, I was able to reconfirm my belief in the Eastern attitude toward nature, which is that humanism should be part of nature and live harmoniously with it. –Artist statement
