A photograph can take the commonplace scene and make it strange simply by focusing our attention on it.  Normally people in close proximity to one another interact and communicate in some way.  But on this New York street each person is a world unto themselves.  A cast off moment in a crowd becomes a study in character and isolation when frozen by the camera.
