I received my BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in 2000 and was fascinated by Sosaky-hanga, the Japanese woodcut. The technique allows me to make monoprints with found objects – stones, shells, and other things – as well as carving. The concepts and ideas that take up my thoughts presently are centered primarily in the privacy of my family life and the farm where we live. It is not so much the external components as my internal state that I am inclined to work with. A Few Years Ago was made by printing a cherry block cut from a decaying tree on the farm. The tree had died in previous years and last spring we cut it down. The appendage sat outside the kitchen window for seasons. –Artist statement
