Nathan Jackson was selected to design the second set of personnel hatchcovers for downtown Seattle. He hand carved a traditional Native American design – a Tlingit Whale motif – in wood, which was later fabricated in cast iron at the Olympic Foundry in Seattle. Thirty-two hatch covers were made, some measuring 32” in diameter, others are 36” in diameter.
